Dr (Associate Professor) Jaimin Patel was born in India. He graduated from Saurastra University, India with MBBS degree in 2001. Dr Patel completed his residency in India and was awarded MD in Pediatrics in 2004. After working as pediatrician for brief period in India, he moved to USA to obtain Masters in Medical Informatics from Milwaukee School of Engineering in 2006. Following that he completed his residency in pediatrics at St Joseph Childrenís hospital in 2009 and fellowship in Neonatology at University of Chicago in 20012. He is currently has board certifications in Pediatrics, Neonatology and Clinical Informatics. Since 2012 he is working at University of Mississippi Medical center, currently as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics-Neonatologist and an Assistant Chief Medical Information Officer. As a neonatologist Dr Patel provides compassionate clinical care to the sickest premature and term neonates and infants at University of Mississippi Medical center. As an assistant CMIO he also participates in EMR optimization. He chairs clinical decision support committee and participates in various other committees such as Epic provider oversight committee, Epic clinical oversight committee, Epic leadership committee and thus he is involved in institute wide EMR related decisions, overseeing information system projects, alert optimization, NICU EMR optimization including orderset development, note templates, links, nutritional calculator development and analysis and improvements in EMR related workflows in various clinical situations.
Dr Patelís primary research interests include clinical research in Neonatology/Pediatrics including microbiome, ventilator management etc. In addition he has been involved in several clinical quality improvement projects in NICU including golden hour QI project, surfactant administration timing improvement project, anesthesia NICU performance improvement project. His informatics related research include clinical decision support including alerts, nutritional management involving EMR and quality improvement of electronic prescriptions.
