Dr Pedro F Bejarano MD, Aneshesiologist and Pain Management Specialist is currently working in private practice with a pool of several hospitals and clinics in Madrid, Spain. Graduated MD and Specialist in Anaesthesia at the National and El Rosario Universities in BogotŠ, Colombia, he underwent post-specialty training in Surgical Intensive Care at the U. of Miamiís Jackson Memorial Medical Center. After working a couple of years as Associate Prof. of Anesthesia and Intensive Care of the Army School of Medicine in his native country, he returned to the US for a combined clinical training in Pain Management at Jacksonís Memorial Medical Center at the Dept. of Anesthesiology Pain Clinic, and the Dept. of Neurosurgeryís Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Back Pain Clinic. In a global perspective, he closely participated with the founding members of the World Institute of Pain (WIP), a clinical pain management-targeted assoc. and served as associate editor for its Pain Practice Journal since its beginning. He also enrolled the International Assoc. for the Study of Pain (IASP) and actively worked in different Committees, from where he promoted Pain education in developing countries. Interested in Neuropathic pain mechanisms and treatment, he was a founding member of the IASPís special interest group in neuropathic pain (NeupSIG), and hosted the First World Congress on Neuropathic Pain in Madrid under the auspices of the IASP-NeupSIG. Moved into Spain on year 2000, he became Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology Critical and Palliative Care at the Houstonís MD Anderson Cancer Center Spain branch in Madrid. From there, he deepen in Palliative Care and the management of Neuropathic pain in oncology patients, hosted in this city the First World Congress on Neuropathic Pain in 2004, under the auspices of the IASP-NeupSIG. After successfully served as Medical Director of this Cancer Center, he returned to private practice in Anesthesia and Pain Medicine in Madrid until now.
