Dr. Mario Rienzo, Italian and French citizen, obtained his MD degree at the Medical Faculty of University of Bari in Southern Italy. He completed his residency program in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care as a resident in Bari (Italy) and Kremlin-Bicêtre (France) University Hospitals and successfully passed the Italian National Board in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in 2003, being among the best students. He then worked as Senior Resident at the Pitié Salpêtrière University Hospital (Paris - France) and soon after as Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Consultant in other French Hospitals (Henri Mondor University Hospital – Créteil, Jacques Cartier Hospital – Massy, Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou – Paris, Hôpital Cardiologique du Haut Lévêque - Bordeaux). He was awarded with INSERM (French Medical Research Institute) grant to follow and complete a PhD program in Cardiovascular Physiology and Pharmacology with focus on diastolic heart function. He is currently working as Senior Consultant at Marie Lannelongue Surgical Hospital (Le Plessis Robinson - France) and managing a research project on extracorporeal life support at the Institute for Rhythmology and Cardiac Modeling (Liryc – Pessac France) in collaboration with the Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Institute of Bordeaux University Hospital. He has written several manuscripts in peer indexed national and international journals and co-authored some textbook chapters.
