Biography

Dr. Sameh Arab is an Emeritus Professor in Cardiology at Alexandria University, Egypt, holding Doctorate degree in Cardiology from the same University. He worked as a registrar and research fellow of Pediatric Cardiology, Guy's Hospital, London, UK (1988-9), where he studied the diagnosis and catheter interventions in congenital heart diseases, and was a visiting Consultant there for one month in 1995. His Doctorate thesis on balloon pulmonary valvotomy, which was an new technique at that time, included interventions in the pediatric age groups starting from neonates, part of which was published as a chapter in a book by German authors (Interventional techniques in cardiovascular medicine, Kluwer Publications, Netherlands, 1991). He was the first to introduce the technique of trans-catheter closure of the ductus arteriosus in Egypt (1996). He was an Elected Member of the Working Group for Interventional Pediatric Cardiology of the Association of European Pediatric Cardiologists in 1995, a founder member of the Egyptian Society of Pediatric Cardiologists (now a sub-division of the Egyptian Society of Cardiology) and its president in 2012-13, and a founder member of the Pan-Arab Association of Congenital Heart Diseases and its first sectretary 2003-6. Currently, he is the moderator of the Pediatric Cardiology Program at CardioAlex (international annual meeting with over 8000 attendants) since 2010. He published several papers in different aspects of cardiology, particularly related to congenital heart diseases, and is interested in under and post-graduate education. He publiched a book (Beyond Clinical Cardiac Examination) as well as a chapter in a general cardiology book for medical students. He is a member of the editorial board for the Egyptian Journal of Cardiology, and was a warded “The Faculty of Medicine Prize and Medal of Honor for Public Services" in 1995, and the best research in echocardiography in 1996”.
