Sergio Damaso has graduated from ESEnfC in 2003 (Coimbra, Portugal) as a general registered nurse. During 9 years was employed by the Portuguese Oncology Institute in Lisbon developing competences of senior staff nurse in colorectal surgery, tissue viability, stoma care, pain management and palliative care. Concomitantly, has co-developed and opened the first pain management unit in the private sector at Lusiadas Hospital, working as a clinical nurse specialist and clinical practice educator in this area for 3 years. Moved to London in 2012, where he started working for the largest private hospitals in the UK, developing further expertise in medical oncology, haematology and palliative care, being in charge of those departments. Has undertaken post graduated education in cancer care and mentorship for nursing at St George´s University of London, delivering highly specialised acute oncology care and supporting student nurses during their training. In 2016, has joined St Joseph´s Hospice (Hackney, London), working and completing further training as a palliative care clinical nurse specialist in the community. One year later started working for St. Christopher´s Hospice in the same role, which allowed developing further clinical skills as a resilient independent practitioner and educator. After completion of post graduated education in palliative care and advanced nursing practice at Kings College London, has joined the senior management team as a ward manager providing leadership in the inpatient unit.
