Dr. Gustavo Roberto Villas Boas was graduated in Pharmacy from the Centro Universitário Católico do Sudoeste do Paraná (2009). He holds a Master's Degree in Pharmacology from the Federal University of Paraná (2011) with a Neuroscience and Research Area Neuropsicofarmacologia (drugs of abuse) and a PhD in Health Sciences (Pharmacology) (2018) from the Federal University of Grande Dourados (UFGD) concentration in neuropsychopharmacology and toxicology. He is currently an effective lecturer at the Federal University of Bahia (UFOB). It works with research involving acute toxicity, subchronic, cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of extracts of plants, drugs or chemical substances, in order to evaluate the toxicity of these compounds to the organism (cells and DNA) and propose measures to improve the quality of life and SAFETY of those exposed to such substances on a day-to-day basis. In addition, it develops research with: 1) Induction of dependence on animals with licit drugs (alcohol); 2) Anxiety and depression. The aim of these lines of research is to elucidate the mechanisms involved in addiction, anxiety and depression (CNS disorders) and, consequently, to develop new therapies that are more effective, with lower rates of adverse effects and with maximized access for patients.
Dr. Gustavo Roberto Villas Boas's Research interests are Neuropsychopharmacology, Anxiety and Depression, Drugs of abuse, Preclinical toxicology, safety assessment, acute toxicity, short-term toxicity, chronic toxicity, genotoxicity and mutagenicity (toxicological genetics).
