Dr. Muhammad Rizwan Hamid is currently Researcher, College of Plant Science and Technology, Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, Hubei, China. He is a Plant Pathologist and obtained his B. Sc (Hons) in 2010, M.Phil. in 2012 from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Punjab, Pakistan and Ph. D in 2018 from Huazhong Agricultural University, Wuhan, Hubei, China. He has worked in scientific research, predominantly as a plant pathologist. He has also worked for a number of years on control of plant diseases using biological (environmental safe) methods. His major research in academia has been on mycoviruses (fungal viruses) and their use as biological control tools to combat plant diseases especially against plant pathogenic fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum. He has a significant interest in environmental safety and development of environmentally safe methods to control plant diseases. He has recently published a first report of novel ssRNA mycovirus from Sclerotinia sclerotiorum which can overcome the limitation of vegetative incompatibility between different isolates, it showed the potential of using mycoviruses for the control of plant diseases.
Dr. Muhammad Rizwan Hamid research interests are Molecular plant pathology; Fungal diseases of plants; Sclerotinia sclerotiorum; Plant diseases control; Chemical control of plant diseases; Biological control of plant diseases; Environmental safety; Mycoviruses.
