Dr Ignacio Garitano is a Gynecologist with a background in Family medicine and community health, humanitarian aid and Field epidemiology. He currently works in Vitoria-Gasteiz, in northern Spain. He was trained in Cruces University Hospital, reference centre of the Basque Country. He has worked in many countries with Medecins Sans Frontieres (Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia and South Africa), he holds an MSc in Epidemiology by the London School of Tropical Medicine and International Health and an MSc in Tropical Medicine and International Health by the University of Barcelona. He conducted a Fellowship in Field Epidemiology at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control and has taken part in outbreak investigations and teaching in Belgium and Guinea Bissau. He is a member of the European Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy and has taken part in many laparoscopic suture courses as facilitator and teacher. He is author of many high impact papers in international journals and a regular reviewer of international gynecology and international health journals.
Dr Garitano is interested in perinatal epidemiology, womens´ health at local, national and international level. Also in residents laparoscopic suture training.
