Dr. Silvia Colnaghi is Researcher in Neurophysiologuy at the University of Pavia and Consultant Neurologist at the Neurological Institute C Mondino Foundation in Pavia, Italy. Her education includes a degree in Medicine, a Specialization in Neurology, and a PhD in Physiology and Neuroscience. Her training began in 2000 at the Neuro-Otology and Neuro-Ophthalmology Laboratory, directed by Prof Maurizio Versino, at Neurological Institute C Mondino Foundation. During fellowship, she learnt the use of eye movement and vestibular function instrumental evalutation for the study of movement and balance. In 2008 she trained in vestibular rehabilitation at Imperial College, National Hospital Queens Square and Charing Cross Hospital, London, UK, under the supervision of Prof Adolfo Bronstein. In 2010 she trained in transcranial magnetic stimulation at the Non-invasive cortical stimulation laboratory, IRCCS Fondazione Santa Lucia, Department of Clinical and Behavioural Neuroscience, Roma, under the supervision of Dr Giacomo Koch. In 2014 she trained in posturography and movement analysis at CSAM Laboratory directed by Prof Marco Schieppati, in Pavia.
Dr. Silvia Colnaghi's reaserch is focused on Behavioural approaches to the understanding of the checkpoints of vestibular and ocular motor physiology and pathology, and investigations designed to shed light on the basic question of how the central nervous system plasticity is translated into adaptation, learning and compensation processes. A major focus is studying the pathways involved in short term motor learning, through the combination of adaptive paradigms and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation.
