Biography

Dr. Jana Tchekalarova has 22 years of research experience, most of which in the field of experimental neurosciences. Current position - Assoc Professor at the Institute of Neurobiology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Head of “Behavioral neurobiology” Department. An Adjunct Professor at the Section of Biochemistry, Physiology and Pathophysiology in the Medical Department of Sofia University. Scientific expertise: Neurobiological regulatory mechanisms in rodent models of epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, depression, diabetes, anxiety states and other conditions, particularly with reference to opportunities for new therapeutic guidelines in diseases. Electrophysiological and neurological changes, behavioral changes, including in memory and learning, seizure effects, mechanisms of nociception and sleep as well as neurobiological mechanisms underlying brain plasticity and neuronal activity in normal and pathological state. The role of neurotransmitters and neuromodulators, including melatonin system and neuropeptides in normal and experimental models of diseases. According to Mendeley profile: h-index = 12, publications 50 with IF; citations = 385. More than 50 papers in peer reviewed journals with impact factor, more than 500 citations.
