Biography

Prof. Martin O Weickert is a Consultant Physician Endocrinology and Diabetes at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire, UK, since 2009. He is a Visiting Professor at Coventry University since 2015 and Honorary Assoc. Prof at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick, since 2009. He leads the Arden Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) Centre, which he has pioneered and successfully led to be awarded the official status of a European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (ENETS) Centre of Excellence (Coe) since February 2015 (1/42 across Europe). He has been working in leading Universities and University Teaching Hospitals throughout his career (Augsburg University Teaching Hospital, Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) Munich, 1997 – 2003; Charite University Medicine Berlin and German Institute of Human Nutrition, Potsdam, Germany, 2003 – 2009). He received his MD for his thesis “Development of an automatic immuno-assay for the direct measurement of DHEAS in serum” in 1997 from the University of Ulm, Germany. He has extensive experience in metabolic studies in humans, including clamp studies and stable isotope techniques. He is a CI, PI or Co-PI in several large (> £1 million) government funded studies. He is an invited author in major textbooks and has published > 100 research papers in peer reviewed high impact international journals since 2005 (h-Index 29).
