Biography

Dr. George Kontogeorgos is a Research Associate at the Department of Pathophysiology, of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece and Visiting Professor at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He graduated for the Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece in 1971, his PhD in 1980, Hellenic Board Certification of Pathology in 1977 and Cytopathology in 1983, Post Doc in Endocrine Pathology at the University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1989 (by Prof. Kalman Kovacs) and in Neuropathology at Mayo Clinic, Rochester MN, USA in 1991 (by Prof. Bernd Scheithauer). He is the former Head of the Department of Pathology “G. Gennimatas” General Hospital of Athens and Director of the Hellenic “National Pituitary Tumor Reference Center”, and former President of the Endocrine Society and of the International Pituitary Pathology. He is member of several professional medical societies, member of Editorial Board in Endocrine Pathology, Hormones, Journal of Immunoassay and Immunochemistry and Open Neuroendocrinology Journal, reviewer in 24 Journals, guest editor in the book series Frontiers of Endocrinology and in a special issue in Neuroendocrinology, and panelist of the WHO Classification of Endocrine Tumors (IARC, Lyon, France). He is recipient of many awards honor and publications in peer reviewed Medical Journals and conference abstracts. He has given many lectures in 23 countries worldwide.
