In last 11 years Dr. Valentina Spanic was engaged in wheat breeding and wheat genetics research, where she combined classical breeding with modern technologies. She was focused on Fusarium resistance, and latter Dr. Spanic was working on rusts in USA, University of Minnesota and Australia, University of Sydney, where she has spent few months. As a Fulbright Fellow, Dr. Spanic had learned how to manage QTLs. At Agricultural Institute Osijek, she is working on classical breeding, as co-breeder in wheat varieties. Sr. Spanic had established Fusarium inoculum production and she was trying to combine resistance with research on physiology of plant. Through KWS-Borlaug stipendium for few months she was working on disease resistance, hybrid wheat production, and evaluation of genetic diversity with SNP markers.
Dr. Valentina Spanicís research interest includes wheat breeding and genetics.
