Dr. Aqeela Mustafa is a Consultant Obstetrician / Gynaecologist with sub specialty training in Maternal Fetal Medicine. She graduated with honors and has worked in institutes like the Harris Birthright Research Centre at Kings College London. As a clinician her focus is mainly on high risk pregnancy management which involves pregnancies with medical disorders, running joint multidisciplinary antenatal clinics in conjunction with cardiologist, neurologist, hematologist and respiratory physician. The other focus remains fetal medicine with screening and diagnosis of rare fetal conditions. She has numerous publications of which her work on posterior fossa anomalies and Dandy Walker Syndrome got a prize in the 10th RCOG International Scientific Congress held in Malaysia in 2012. Her current pursuit is in the management of growth restricted fetuses, measures to prolong the pregnancies with growth restriction and optimal timing of delivery for these fetuses.
Dr. Aqeela Mustafa current research interest has brought her to Tanzania where she is working on the management of growth restricted fetuses in singleton and multiple pregnancies. Usage of ultrasound and computerized CTG monitoring in an outpatient setting to prolong these pregnancies and avoid preterm births in the developing nations helping to reduce the NICU admissions.
