Dr. Bashir Sajo Mienda (B.Sc. Microbiology, M.Sc. Biotechnology, Ph.D. Bioscience), is a Senior lecturer, and Faculty Member at the Department of Microbiology & Biotechnology, Federal University Dutse (FUD), Jigawa State, Nigeria. He received his B.Sc. degree in Microbiology from Bayero University Kano in 2006, completed his M.Sc. in Biotechnology from Universiti Teknologi Mlaysia (UTM) in 2012. He again pursued his PhD degree in Bioscience (with emphasis in microbial genome-scale metabolic modelling for systems and synthetic Biology applications) in 2016 at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.
Dr. Bashir Sajo Mienda’s research efforts focuses on systems metabolic engineering for strain development. The use of microbial genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs) for identification of novel gene deletion targets for increasing bio-based industrial chemicals and/or fuels production from renewable resources. He recently started to expand his research niche beyond industrial applications, that is to see how GEMs can serve as platforms for biological discovery and/or identification of novel antimicrobial drugs targets to combat bacterial pathogens that causes infectious diseases with established multidrug resistant capabilities to existing antibiotics.
