. Dr Sanju George is a senior consultant psychiatrist at Rajagiri hospital in Kochi, India. Immediately prior to this he worked as an addiction psychiatrist for 15 years at the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust, UK and also as honorary senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham. His expertise is in areas of substance addictions, gambling addiction, and treatment of addicted doctors. As an academic he has authored over 120 papers in international journals, is on the editorial board of 7 medical journals and is a scientific peer reviewer for over 30 journals. An opinion leader in the field of gambling addiction, he researches, writes and speaks on the subject, and collaborates nationally and internationally. Some of his work in this field include: over 30 published papers, authored the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ policy paper on gambling addiction, co-edited UK’s first textbook on problem gambling, and served on the UK government’s Responsible Gambling Strategy Board, the body that advises the government on gambling related issues. He is the only researcher to have extensively studied gambling in India.
