He is a Molecular Biologist trained in Indian Institute of Chemical Biology (IICB), Kolkata and Institute of Integrative Biology of the Cell (I2CB), France. Currently, He is working as Assistant Professor in Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India (http://www.thsti.res.in/profile.php). His current research focus is oriented to understand the striking alliance between microorganisms and the human host and role and impact of microorganisms in human health and diseases. Currently, they are investigating (i) The role and impact of human gut microbiota in Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Inflammatory Bowl Diseases (IBD), which are directly linked to microbial richness, dynamics, and functional repository of the microbial genome. They have adopted culture independent metagenomics approaches to understand the importance of microbial community as a whole rather than as individual organisms as in the case of microbial pathogens. (ii) Our second major research interest is to explore the functional repertoires of human gut microbiota by creating fosmid libraries of the gut microbial metagenome. We wish to understand the mechanisms that connenct the human gut microbiota including pathobionts to the efficacy and toxicity of xenobiotics, including antimicrobial drugs and complex dietary compounds.
