Dr. Wenjie Liao holds a PhD in environmental science from Leiden University (Leiden, the Netherlands) and an MSc in environmental engineering from Sichuan University (Chengdu, China). In 2004 he graduated with a baccalaureate in environmental engineering from a research-based exchange programme between Sichuan University and the University of Washington (Seattle, USA). During his MSc, he worked as a part-time teaching assistant at the WuYuzhang Honours College of Sichuan University. After taking PhD, he worked as a researcher with Leiden University, a consultant with United Nations University, and then a Marie Curie Fellow with the French National Institute for Agricultural Research (Rennes, France). Since 2015, he is again with Sichuan University, as an associate professor in energy and environmental engineering. His motivation to be part of EC Nutrition lies in his curiosity about how to provide enough nutrition/food for human beings while not harming the environment in the two or three decades to come.
His current research interests include: 1) sustainability assessment of energy/environmental/ agri-food technologies; 2) analysis of environmental and energy policies about the green development strategy in China; and 3) knowledge synergy between industrial ecology, agro-ecology, earth system science, etc. to understand interactions between human systems and the environment.
