Professor Cuccurullo is currently surgeon in the Dept of Laparoscopic, General, and Robotic Surgery, of Monaldi Hospital, Highly Specialized Hospital Azienda Ospedaliera dei Colli, Naples, Italy, where he directs the Operative Unit of Week Surgery. He received his Medical Degree and General Surgery Specialization from the University of Naples in 1986 and in 1991. He is Professor of Surgery in the University of the Study of Campania Luigi Vanvitelli (in the Degree Course for Infermieristic Sciences) since 2002. Professor Cuccurullo is credited with over 120 publications, including articles, book chapters and textbooks. He has delivered over 500 lectures as invited speaker in national and international congresses/symposia. Has organized as President the first Italian Consensus Conference on the laparoscopic ventral hernia repair. Has taught and organized 35 editions of biannual courses on advanced laparoscopic surgery (laparoscopic full immersion surgical week). He is teacher in the laparoscopic advanced surgery School of Italian Surgery Society, and in the section of laparoscopic parietal wall surgery School of Italian Hospital Surgery Association. He is teacher in the Abdominal wall surgery school of Italian Hernia Society. He is in the Board of Directors of EHS (European Hernia Society), where has the role of Secretary for Congresses; ISHAWS (Italian Society of Abdominal Wall Surgery), where he covers the role of National Delegate, and SICADS (Italian Society of Ambulatory and Day Surgery). He has performed over than 5000 surgical procedures of advanced general surgery in the last 10 years, mainly with mini-invasive (laparoscopic and robotic) approach.
Professor Cuccurullo's research interest are Mini-invasive surgery, Robotic surgery, Abdominal wall repair (laparoscopic ventral hernia repair, recurrent inguinal hernia repair, complex ventral hernia repair with component separation technique) lower and upper gi surgery (colorectal, esophagus, surgery)
