Biography

Prof. Manuel Morgado is a Hospital Pharmacy Specialist working at the Pharmaceutical Services of Hospital Center of Cova da Beira, Covilhã, Portugal. He is an invited Assistant Professor of Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal and School of Health Sciences, Polytechnic Institute of Guarda, Guarda, Portugal. He undertook his PhD in the area of arterial hypertension and studied the covariates associated with poor blood pressure (BP) control. Prof. Manuel Morgado developed interventions to improve patient medication adherence and BP control. He has trained healthcare workers and patients for drug education and health education. He has lectured health literacy to health sciences students, healthcare professionals and patients. He has developed clinical work in the areas of drug compliance, drug interaction and drug side effects, with a view to developing interventions to improve these parameters.


Research Interest

Prof. Manuel Morgado is interested in: clinical pharmacy; oncology; supportive therapy in cancer patients; cardiovascular risk factors and arterial hypertension; study of adherence to pharmacological therapy; development and evaluation of strategies to increase adherence to drug therapy and the efficacy and safety of the same therapy; study of independent variables that significantly influence adherence to drug therapy; systematic reviews and meta-analyzes.
