Dr. Ahmed Adel Hassan, graduated from Kasr Al Aini Medical School in 1977, he completed his residency and obtained his MS in 1982. His Master’s thesis was on Schistosomal Nephropathy and HLA association, a fairly new topic at that time. Continuing his interest in kidney disease he finished his studies in the Nephrology and Transplantation Center, St Etienne France. He completed his MD thesis on Immunogenetics and Immunopathology of Membranous GN under the able supervision of Professor Francois Berthoux. He obtained his degree in 1989. During his stay in France, he was involved in many studies of IgA Nephropathy and CyA in kidney transplantation. Following his MD, he took up teaching at Cairo University’s Faculty of Medicine as a Lecturer of Nephrology progressing to Full Professor in 1999. His International career included being a Visiting Professor at the Sheffield Kidney Institute, UK in 1997 and the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio in 2009. He has over 50 research papers to his credit and supervision of MD/MS students during his career.
Besides membership of ISN and TTS, his service to the profession included being a Treasurer of ASNRT from 1997-2001. His commitment to Nephrology prompted him to carry on as Secretary General of the ASNRT from 2001-2010. He is Editor in chief ASNRT web site, member of Editorial board of AJNT. He is currently Senior Consultant of Nephrology at many Egyptian, Saudi Arabian and Qatari hospitals.
