Dr. Giovanni Cestaro, MD, is a surgeon born in Naples on 29 April 1986. He obtained degree in Medicine and Surgery in 2010 at University “Federico II” in Naples. During post-graduate training in General Surgery, he worked in Naples (University “Federico II”, “Cardarelli” Hospital and “S.Maria del Popolo degli Incurabili” Hospital), in Switzerland (Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale in Mendrisio) and in Sierra Leone (Surgical and Paediatric Centre – NGO Emergency – in Goderich). Fields of interest are emergency surgery, traumatology, proctology and wound care. Dr. Cestaro is first author of about 30 scientific papers, published on international peer-reviewed journals and regarding especially anal disorders. In 2014, he received a best scientific communication award by Italian Geriatric Surgery Society for his study testing anal lipofilling as faecal incontinence treatment. He also did several oral and posters in Italy and in Switzerland. His specialization dissertation was on emergency surgery activity in low resource settings, reporting his personal experience of six months’ work in Sierra Leone. At the moment, he is working at Ente Ospedaliero Cantonale in Mendrisio, Switzerland, to improve skills in emergency surgery and wound care. During surgical training he attended several laparoscopic and minimally invasive courses.
