Professor Nicolette Roman has a PhD in Psychology, is rated as an established researcher nationally, in South Africa, is a Full Professor and is Director of the Interdisciplinary Unit in Child, Family and Community Studies in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences, at the University of the Western Cape. In 2015 she was awarded the Chancellorís Outstanding Alumni Award in Health Sciences as well as the Deanís Research Excellence Merit Award in the Faculty of Community and Health Sciences. She is a member of the Family Services Forum in the Western Cape, South Africa, to implement the new family policy and a member of the Society for Research in Child Development. She also builds capacity in community-based organisations to build evidence-based programmes by training organisations in the implementation of Monitoring and Evaluation.
Her research focuses on the parent-child relationship to strengthen families. She has published and presented her research both locally and internationally. Professor Roman published two international books titled - Parenting: Behaviors, Cultural Influences and Impact on Childhood Health and Wellbeing as well as Self-Determination Theory: A Family Perspective both published by NOVA Science Publications in New York.
