Abstract

Rural development is a comprehensive process encompasses various components of socio-economic activities joint together to constitute solid diversified economy. Such an economy doesn’t depend on one commodity or activity, it should rather be inclusive of various agricultural, industrial, in addition to other important resources such as rural tourism. The increasing global interests towards tourism propose it as the modern alternative economic activity for several countries around the world. This research attempts to emphasize the ultimate role of tourism in enhancing the economies, especially that of the developing countries. It is an attempt to highlight the essential role that rural tourism; with its economic, social, cultural in addition to other aspects, play in our life.

This study presents general introduction about rural development and its socio-economic role in promoting the economies of the countries, particularly those developing ones which highly rely on rural development as a main source of income. An emphasis will be paid to the rural development in Libya where integrated rural development initiated through linking different sectors related to such as rural development sector, tourism sector, and education sector, such as integration is planned to maximize the benefits of tourism and simultaneously minimize any social side effects. This integration is well illustrated by the model constructed by the researcher and located in this research. The research’s problems in addition to its objectives are as well presented in this study.
